Abstract

The Objective Hermeneutics, pioneered by the German sociologist Ulrich Oevermann, and the Sequence Analysis established on the basis of this methodology require data analysis in a group format. This approach mandates group members to engage in discussions adhering to the principles of Sequence Analysis. Such adherence serves the dual purpose of mitigating subjective inclinations amongst analysts and achieving the objectivity of the analytical endeavor. However, during the actual group analysis following its methodological guidelines, the interactions between group members may create potential uncertainties, which should be carefully discussed. Therefore, this manuscript first described the operational modality of the objective hermeneutic analytic group, the principles of extensivity and parsimony, and its theoretical underpinnings. Then, it delved into the challenges that might encounter during the group analysis process - which would be focused on the disjunction between practical implementation and the foundational tenets of objective hermeneutic analysis.
